Anybody wants more of Zach should check out Chuck Loeb's "Balance". Smooth Jazz setting, very polished, great playing by Zach...throws in plenty of his 'stuff'...

Doesn't hold a candle to Holdsworth? WTF? They're apples and organges. Krantz's CD is so much more interesting rhythmically than Holdsworth's. Alan's a great player. I love (the John McClaughlin) albmun 'live in Paris' w/Dennis Chambers, he reminds me of Holdsworth sometimes BUT if you want to hear what every guitar player SHOULD sound like, get Long to Be Loose or the live one at the 55 Bar. I've never felt more strongly about a guitarist. Krantz's ability to "superimpose" time over his solos is so unique that I'd say Holdsworth doesn't hold a candle to Krantz! In fact Alan doesn't even have the candle,lol, he's got one of those butane lighters that you have to annoyingly refill every other day and then you get tired of it and throw it away. Oh yeah, Krantz has the candle and he burns.

I think Siepel was making a comparison of gtrsts, including JMcL - he just did it all in 1 thought [sentence], so that it sounded funny like that...altho i could be wrong [& presumptuous!] at any time about this stuff!...but I tend to give the BOTDoubt anyway... ;c)

I have most of AH's CDs...all contain exemplary, no-holds-barred playing abillty...yes, there are indulgent solos of course, for sure, but that's not all the man can do...he has nice ethereal ballads AW [some grooved, some rubato]...
It's very high-level stuff. AH has a very unique sound & legato playing style that a lot of great jazzers & fusionists have ref'd to as the "modern-day Coltrane of gtr." It is mostly instrumental fusion at it's most obvious & optimum [he has a vocal track or 3 out there]...
I akin bagging on AH to bagging on VC, Weckl, Virg, Gadd, Husband, Bozzio, or Dennis... [img]graemlins/hmmm.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/sure.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/whatever.gif[/img]
But I do also understand that regardless of how accopmlished, high-level & great someone's playing level may be, their "notey-ness" [amount of notes], & because of their note choices [esp jazz & fusion], some folks may be put off...it's cool.
You have to be in the mood for AH. When I am, it burns it for me... ;c)

About Allan Holdsworth. I don't see how you guys can bash him. He is one of the most ground breaking guitarists of our time.

yer right, I wrote that half awake, when I got up today, After I take my head out of my ass, I'll take my foot out of my mouth right now. Please excuse me, I don't mean to sound like an ass, although it's a little late for that. My point is that I'm very passionate about WK, he's the only guitarist in a LONG time that's really made me take notice. I'll admit that I'm from the midwest and maybe my attitude or lack of variety in music-listening is a result of an upbringing surrounded by butt rock radio stations. I mean no disrespect and you're right derek, i shouldn't write checks my butt can't cash. I just really like Krantz and Danziger, that's all and if someone asks I'll endorse Krantz over anyone right now.

Dan, you are right; Krantz IS cool, man [IMHO]. Besides, if you like it, then it's cool, regardless of how I or anyone else thinks. & like everyone else, you're entitled to your opin also, & I happen to agree w you that the Krantz stuff is also gooood stuff. So, no probs, mate. The two are just different bags, that's all. I find merit in both.
